Next On The Proud Boy Chopping Block: Ian Kramer, Matthew Cooper

Patriot Prayer is already in civil trouble for their actions on May 1 in Portland. Criminal trouble does not make things better for them.

PORTLAND, OR – Ian Alexander Kramer, a member of the neo-Fascist group Patriot Prayer who has a well-documented history of violent assaults and attacks on various persons, was arrested Aug. 7 on six charges related to a May 1 assault as Patriot Prayer and the Proud Boys went to confront antifa during a May Day event at a pub called the Cider Riot. The indictment also lists fellow Patriot Prayer member Matthew Demetrius Cooper as a co-defendant.

According to news reports, neo-Fascists followed antifascists to Cider Riot, jeering at them and pepper spraying people sitting on the pub’s patio. When antifa defended themselves, Kramer allegedly hit a woman in the back of the head, knocking her unconscious. Video also shows Cooper, a Black man, shouting at antifa, “You won’t fight a Black guy! You’re afraid to fight a Black guy” just before we walks across the street and assaults a woman, instigating another fight. Just seconds before he was shouting, “I will go to jail on my own goddamn merit!”

When police arrested him at his home, they found a metal baton that they believe might have been the weapon used.

Conservative provocateur Andy Ngo, who has generated press coverage and nationwide support from other conservatives by positioning himself as a “victim” after he had milkshakes and silly string thrown at him during another rally one month later, was part of the May 1 as well and is furious that Kramer and Cooper have been charged, saying in a tweet, “There have been no arrests of the antifa people who assaulted me in either May or June.” Ngo had come under fire for doxing the woman Kramer assaulted and seriously injured.

Kramer has a history of engaging in violent confrontations at rallies, and even tried to assault a reporter before antifa stepped in. Cooper’s criminal history, according to Rose City Antifa, include him being charged in 2016 with two counts of forcible sodomy on a victim under age 13. A Twitter post indicates that he was able to plead guilty to an amended charge of assault and battery, a misdemeanor.

A civil lawsuit has been filed against Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson, Kramer, Cooper and several other people involved in the May 1 incident by the owner of the Cider Riot. The lawsuit alleges Kramer broke one of the woman’s vertebrae. Kramer faces charges that include felony assault, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of tear gas, and disorderly conduct. Cooper faces disorderly conduct and harassment charges.
