This is not the Chicago officer of the same name on trial for murdering Laquan McDonald. This is the attorney who keeps thinking he can sue people for calling him and the Proud Boys nazis, and he just got picked up for filing false police reports!
Jason Lee Van Dyke is known for making threats against antifa and anyone who is not White that he is angry act, often violent threats. Patience with the Texas Proud Boy attorney might be running its course however, as he was arrested Friday for allegedly making a false police report.
According to the Daily Beast, Van Dyke called police on Sept. 13 to his home in Oak Point, a suburb of Dallas, claiming a theif had allegedly broken into his truck, swiped three guns, a backpack, and a bag of his roommate Isaac’s camera equipment. When they arrived on the night of Sept. 13, they confirmed that all those items were missing and that Van Dyke’s truck was damaged. Van Dyke further claimed that he grabbed another gun from inside his house and chased the burglar off the property. However, his roommate Issac said Van Dyke called police only after Isaac realized his camera equipment was missing. The apparent burglary occurred earlier in the day, and the truck appeared to have been damaged by a brick that came from a fire pit in Van Dyke’s backyard. He was arrested on a misdemeanor charged of filing a false police report and was released from jail that night on a $1,000 bond, according to county records.
Van Dyke has represented the neo-Fascist Proud Boys in court and is licensed to practice law in licensed to practice law in Colorado, Georgia, Texas and Washington D.C. He regularly makes threats against people online both legal and violent, most notably being against rapper Talib Kweli and other Black people online for calling him out. While Twitter eventually suspended Van Dyke’s account, it was only after they briefly suspended the accounts of those going after Van Dyke for his racism, prompting many to be outraged.
Van Dyke also attempted to sue antifascist reporter Gerry Bello of the Mockingbird Publishing Company for calling the Proud Boys a neo-Nazi organization in one of their articles. Van Dyke later dropped his suit, but not before he threatened to add the Huffington Post – who covered the Bello story, noting Van Dyke’s past threats, including those to an entire family – Talib Kweli and others to the dubious action.
The Texas State Bar does not comment on whether or not they have open investigation on attorneys, but State Bar President Tom Vick specifically condemned Van Dyke last November regarding the statements made on social media by him, according to the Huffington Post. “The statements attributed to this individual are reprehensible and contrary to the values we hold as Texas lawyers,” Vick said. According to Van Dyke, he still represents the Proud Boys.
