MAGA Twitter: President Impeached So It’s WAR!

The e-muscles are flexing on Twitter, and they really should do something about it. Unless of course they are about full-on declarations of civil war.

A number of conservative figures from Fox News host Tucker Carlson to incumbent U.S. Congressperson Louis Gohmert have made predictions of a second civil war in the past for either an attempt to make guns illegal or if Donald Trump was impeached. The latter happened Wednesday evening as the House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump on two articles, one for abuse of power and another for obstruction of Congress, and almost immediately on Twitter, the calls for civil war went from predictions to flat out threats and calls for it coming from his supporters.

“ALERT!! If the Democrats impeach OUR PRESIDENT WE NEED TO HAVE A CIVIL WAR,” Adrienne Glusman tweeted. “America as we have known it will be gone and the squad will be in charge of us. I shiver thinking of it. A civil war will be the only way to get America back as we remember it.”

Glusman is not the only poster tweeting such sentiments. Jon Rosseau responded to tweets reporting the news of the impeachment by saying “It’s time for the next civil war,” while David Henry tagged Norah O’Donnell of CBS News with his call.

Meanwhile William Roger Veytovich, who says in a pinned tweet, “I’m no white nationalists (sic), but I don’t want my ethnicity to go extinct,” targets House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with a not-so-thinly veiled threat: A picture of a smiling woman with a bat with him tweeting, “Oh @SpeakerPelosi Virginia and the 17 permitless carry states would like to pay you and the rest of the communists in D.C. a visit!” It included the hastag #CivilWar2.

Veytovich says in his account description that he is “Just a meme lord ready to free Twitter from censorship oppression and make it dank again!” Curiously, however, Twitter’s violent threats policywould put his and several accounts threatening civil war in violation. “You may not threaten violence against an individual or a group of people,” the policy states. We also prohibit the glorification of violence.” It is not known if Twitter or has taken action or will against any of those that have made threats of civil war.
