Right wing media these days is full of talk about how filthy liberals and their \u201cenclaves\u201d supposedly are. In that world, San Francisco is synonymous with shitting in the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott Presler, a racist grifter who\u2019s worked for ACT for America, built his current performance on the idea of getting volunteers together to clean liberal cities up and then pose for photos afterwards. He\u2019s done this before in Baltimore, Los Angeles, Houston, and most recently Salem and Portland, Oregon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few dozen of Presler\u2019s volunteers arrived around 10am last Saturday morning at San Francisco Civic Center. They\u2019d partnered with San Francisco\u2019s GOP and planned to have them pick up trash for about four hours. They initially also planned to come to Oakland as well, but cancelled that the day before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cleanup was to be followed by a \u201cTown Hall\u201d panel by Brandon Straka of the astro-turf #WalkAway campaign<\/a>\u2013an effort to get Democrats to leave the party and vote red. A previous event by Straka at Chico State had III% militiamen as security<\/a>. Presler and two other LGBTQ+ MAGA-world e-celebs, Blaire White and Mike Harlow were the other speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But things didn\u2019t go as planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LCRW spoke to two people who went undercover, signing up for the cleanup online with fake names and participating while monitoring volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe “site” was up and down several streets,\u201d one source who showed up to the 10am-Noon shift of the cleanup recounted to LCRW via a group text chat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe group we followed was polite to those they interacted with. No idea what the other groups got up to. (I mean, we were all doing a back and forth, but they were polite to those on the street.) They picked up trash and asked before they took anything, if it might have been personal property. They each collected about 1\/2 a bag of trash, left shit where it was if it was too much trouble and were headed back to Civic Center less than an hour after they left,\u201d the source who observed the morning shift said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another person who went undercover during the Noon-2pm cleanup said the group they followed wasn\u2019t courteous to people at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t describe them as \u201cpolite\u201d to unhoused residents. Their cleanup crew ignored [unhoused] people completely most of the time and treated them like they weren\u2019t human beings,\u201d the undercover activist said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe amount of trash they had wasn\u2019t very much. Most of the bags were half-filled but they did collect a bit,\u201d the undercover activist added. \u201cWhen I\u2019ve done trash clean ups with the consent of curbside communities, we got a lot more with a lot less people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some antifascists went to observe during the morning and witnessed invasive and abusive behavior from Presler\u2019s volunteers. Some told LCRW the volunteers were aware they were being observed and \u201cwere careful not to overtly harass people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey would completely crowd around houseless people, even if they were sleeping, and start going through their shit to look for things that could be seen as \u201ctrash\u201d without taking things that obviously weren\u2019t,\u201d an antifascist told LCRW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey were picking up a  bunch of clothes that were sitting in an alley that very likely could have been someone\u2019s,\u201d the antifascist recounted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One houseless person of color yelled \u201cGet the fuck out of here! You don\u2019t wanna help anyone!\u201d The volunteers ignored him. Another houseless person happened to be a Trump supporter but didn\u2019t want to be filmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe had to tell them like three times to stop filming him,\u201d an antifascist recounted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some antifascist counter-protestors and one of the undercover activists told LCRW they saw an unhoused person\u2019s tent being stolen<\/a> and thrown away by Presler\u2019s volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
