CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Federal officials today announced the arrest of a well-known White Supremacist troll and provocateur that for two years have attempted to dox and harass antifascists around the globe on charges that he made racially-motivated threats against a possible city council candidate in Charlottesville, interfering in a local election. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a press release<\/a> by the United States Department of Justice, Daniel McMahon, 31 of Brandon, Florida was indicted on Sept. 11 for willful interference with a candidate for elective office, bias-motivated interference with a candidate for elective office, threats to injure in interstate commerce, and cyberstalking. The charges were released following his arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs alleged in the indictment, this defendant was motivated\nby racial animus and used his social-media accounts to threaten and intimidate\na potential candidate for elective office,\u201d U.S. Attorney Thomas T. Cullen said.\n\u201cAlthough the First Amendment protects an individual\u2019s right to broadcast\nhateful views online, it does not give license to threats of violence or bodily\nharm. We will continue to prioritize cyber-threat cases, including those giving\nrise to civil rights violations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charges stem from January 2019, where according to federal\nofficials, McMahon, who called himself \u201cJack Corbin\u201d and \u201cPale Horse\u201d online, threatened\nBlack Lives Matter activist Don Gathers, identified only as \u201cD.G.\u201d, with\nphysical harm because of his race and because he was running for elected\noffice. Gathers served on Charlottesville\u2019s Blue Ribbon Commission on Race,\nMemorials and Public Spaces, as its chairman, and it was that commission that recommended\nrenaming parks that included statutes of Thomas \u201cStonewall\u201d Jackson and Robert\nE. Lee, as well as  to relocate the Lee\nstatute, which prompted Charlottesville resident Jason Kessler to organize the Aug.\n12, 2017 \u201cUnite the Right\u201d rally that resulted in the death of counter\nprotester Heather Heyer. After McMahon\u2019s harassment, some of which was promoted\nin an article by Patrick Howley on his Big League Politics website when they\nposted a video from \u201cJack Corbin\u2019s\u201d still-active YouTube, Gathers bowed out of\nthat race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
