I think there\u2019s blame on both sides, and I have no doubt about it, and you don\u2019t have any doubt about it either,\u201d President Trump told a room full of reporters at a press conference following the Unite the Right\u00a0white nationalist rally in\u00a0Charlottesville, which resulted in the vehicular homicide of Heather Heyer. Occurring nearly one year ago today, the event was a chilling reminder of the festering hatred of the alt-right that has been\u00a0invigorated by Trump and his rhetoric.<\/p>\n

At this year\u2019s South by Southwest Film Festival, director Adam Bhala Lough (The New Radical<\/em>) premiered a new documentary\u00a0Alt-Right: Age of Rage<\/em>, which explores this divide in our country\u2013one of, if not the first, to specifically look at the tragedy in Charlottesville in feature-length form. Featuring interviews with activist Daryle Lamont Jenkins and alt-right leader Richard Spencer, it explores both sides with more nuance than our President might. John Fink said in\u00a0his review<\/a>, \u201cThe documentary focuses largely on the face of the alt-right movement and instant meme Richard Spencer, a University of Chicago-educated \u2018academic\u2019 quick to call someone a \u2018cuck,\u2019 but barely able to recognize the death of Heather Heyer as a tragedy. The documentary allows its frat boy subject to talk himself into incoherency, propagating the need for a white ethnostate and greeting movement supporters with a \u2018Heil Victory.’\u201d<\/p>\n
