It&#8217;s you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/unicornriot.ninja\/2026\/trumps-new-national-strategy-labels-left-wing-as-terrorists-akin-to-isil-and-al-qaeda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Phil Mandelbaum, Unicorn Riot Contributor<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The White House\u2019s newly released&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2026-USCT-Strategy-1.pdf\">national counterterrorism strategy<\/a>&nbsp;identifies the \u201cleft-wing,\u201d \u201canti-fascists,\u201d \u201canarchists\u201d and \u201cradically pro-transgender ideologies\u201d as terrorist threats equivalent to al Qaeda and the Islamic State.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This follows in the footsteps of the September 25 national security presidential memorandum&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/09\/countering-domestic-terrorism-and-organized-political-violence\/\">NSPM-7<\/a>&nbsp;on \u201ccountering domestic terrorism and organized political violence,\u201d which investigative journalist and author Will Potter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.counterpunch.org\/2026\/04\/26\/from-activists-to-terrorists\/\">says<\/a>&nbsp;demonstrates that \u201cthe administration isn\u2019t just targeting a movement,\u201d \u201cit\u2019s building a case against dissent itself.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his September memorandum, Trump details what he calls \u201ca pattern of violent and terroristic activities under the umbrella of self-described \u2018anti-fascism.\u2019\u201d According to Trump, the goal of anti-fascists is to \u201cprevent the functioning of a democratic society.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the White House\u2019s formal 2026 anti-terrorism strategy, Trump expounds on the memorandum, promising to use \u201call the tools\u201d to \u201cmap [leftists] at home, identify their membership, map their ties to international organizations like Antifa, and use law enforcement tools to cripple them operationally before they can maim or kill the innocent.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar language is used to describe the federal government\u2019s efforts to counteract international drug cartels and \u201cthe five Jihadist groups deemed by the CIA as the most dangerous and capable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unicornriot.ninja\/2026\/why-was-the-prairieland-jury-persuaded-to-convict-given-the-governments-weak-case\/\">documented<\/a>&nbsp;by Unicorn Riot, this counterterrorism strategy has already been leveraged to convict activists protesting Trump\u2019s policies \u2014 in an unprecedented case of what the National Lawyers Guild&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/truthout.org\/articles\/these-dallas-residents-are-on-the-front-lines-of-trumps-war-against-antifa\/\">called<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cunchecked state repression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On July 4, 2025, \u201cleft-wing\u201d activists gathered outside an ICE facility in Dallas-Forth Worth for a fireworks display and noise demonstration; immediately labeled an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/lguSU\">Antifa cell<\/a>,\u201d nine defendants \u2014 \u2018the Prairieland 9\u2019 \u2014 were&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/antifa-cell-members-convicted-prairieland-ice-detention-center-shooting\">convicted<\/a>&nbsp;March 13, 2026, of \u201cproviding support to terrorists\u201d for activities like wearing black, owning zines, carrying a first aid kit, and using the Signal app for carpooling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This didn\u2019t surprise the autonomous anarchist collective&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crimethinc.com\/\">Crimethinc<\/a>. \u201cThe Trump administration specifically identifies anarchists and anti-fascists as one of the three major types of terror groups because they know there is no greater threat to tyranny than autonomous, decentralized, horizontally organized direct action,\u201d the group told us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it won\u2019t stop there, said&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/supportericking\/\">Eric King<\/a>, an anarchist activist formerly imprisoned on terrorism charges. \u201cThe government is openly in favor of white supremacy, and that should be a concern to all of us who view the world differently,\u201d he told us. \u201cToday anti-fascists, tomorrow progressives, and then Democrat liberals. Fascism doesn\u2019t stop having enemies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shaneburley.org\/\">Shane Burley<\/a>, author of the book, \u201cFascism Today: What It Is and How to End It,\u201d Trump\u2019s counterterrorism strategy is less \u201ca statement of policy\u201d and more \u201ca permission structure for law enforcement to use excessive force in the field and for DAs to add sentencing enhancements,\u201d as occurred in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unicornriot.ninja\/2026\/nine-prairieland-defendants-found-guilty-in-first-antifa-test-case\/\">Prairieland case<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, though Trump\u2019s strategy claims \u201creal threats were ignored or underplayed\u201d under Joe Biden and past administrations,\u201d and \u201cAmericans have witnessed the politically motivated killings of Christians and conservatives committed by violent left-wing extremists,\u201d as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.norabenavidez.com\/\">Nora Benavidez<\/a>&nbsp;points out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis new so-called strategy to protect the US from terrorism flies in the face of our own Department of Justice\u2019s findings that it scrubbed from public record: most ideologically motivated homicides since 1990 have been committed by far-right extremists, not far-left or foreign actors.\u201dNora Benavidez<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Benavidez, senior counsel and director of digital justice and civil rights at Free Press, called the latest action by the Trump administration merely \u201cone of hundreds of censorial attempts \u200bby the administration to muzzle free speech \u200band dissent over the last year and a half.\u201d But, she added, \u201cthe new Trump counterterrorism agenda \u200bis a dictator\u2019s shakedown, created to intimidate, harass and \u200blegitimize penalties against those who dare to disagree with the administration\u200b.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Burley agreed, adding that though \u201cthere is no domestic terrorist legal category,\u201d the 2026 counterterrorism strategy won\u2019t stop \u201cthe repression that the left and queer folks will face.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this, Crimethinc told us, \u201cshould prompt ordinary Americans who do not wish to live under autocracy\u201d to learn about alternative models for social change and community defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>About the author: Phil Mandelbaum is an award-winning journalist, a co-creator of the content services division of The Associated Press, a nonprofit and political strategist, and an organizer and artist, also known as awkword.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Cover image contains text from the White House Counterterrorism Strategy document over a screenshot of a video recorded by L.
