There’s a reason why Trump didn’t mention I.C.E. all that much during his State of the Union Address .<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

DILLEY, TEXAS – As I write this, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Patrol Agents and the Dilley Immigration Center Staff are sweeping the facility. Agents and those employed at the facility are confiscating the children\u2019s artwork as well as letters to family and friends.\u00a0 As reported by Pedro Manriquez of the Migrant Insider.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the Residential Standards put forth by ICE in 2011, all detainees’ mail is subject to inspection and can be deemed as contraband. This of course, is a tactic being used to control the narrative that the Trump Administration has laid forth for the American people to consume. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump and his administration have long claimed that the conditions in the federal immigration facilities are at a \u201chigher standard than where the migrants came from,\u201d as Kristie Noem falsely claims the facilities are equipped to care for children. Claims that go against immigration attorneys and human rights advocacy groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advocacy groups and representatives of families, as well as family members have reported a significant amount of control and confiscation of the children\u2019s personal possessions. With reports ranging from legal representation as well as withholding other letters, cartoons, drawings and self-expression, without regard to privileged or non-privileged communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Letters to attorneys are considered privileged communication between their client and representative. These communications, theoretically, cannot be read by administrative staff, but the federal government claims that drawings, intended for the families or media are not privileged, and therefore can be confiscated to protect the integrity and security of the facility. The 2025 National Detention Standards also claims it helps to \u201cmaintain discipline.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the detention centers\u2019 national standards authorize this treatment of children in their care, human rights and child advocacy groups say this is inhumane and a danger for all children held in custody. Advocates argue that in practice, these tactics are being used to silence and suppress the voices of those inside who in recent weeks have described the deplorable conditions of the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advocacy groups claim the federal government is participating in violating the children\u2019s civil rights by suppressing descriptions or poor living conditions, lack of medicine or medical care with some writing to their families of \u201cfeelings of hopeless and anguish.\u201d With one detainee writing \u201cI have never been so scared in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with the Department of Homeland Security, Donald Trump and Kristi Noem are refusing to address the issues, let alone admit they exist. It is no surprise that numerous advocacy groups are sounding the alarm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just last week a House Oversight Committee confronted acting director of ICE, Todd Lyons. He was asked about letters written by the children in the care and custody of the federal government. With inquiry as to why children were being held long after the 20-day limit as citied by immigration law. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has already been in hot water this year with a settlement being reached in late January. The ruling forced ICE to stop accessing detainees\u2019 confidential mail, and to adhere to immigration law while handling inmates privileged communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is clear, that this administration is not concerned with the rule of law, when court rulings, ordering DHS, ICE and CBP, continue to rule against the agencies, ordering them to stop violating the law in their efforts to execute the \u201clargest mass deportation in history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the ongoing \u201csurges\u201d acted out by the Trump administration, over 3,800 children have been taken to facilities as well as deported, with ages ranging from newborn to late teens. In one such case, a 2-month-old was denied medical care and was hospitalized with severe breathing issues related to RSV with the child being admitted to the hospital with life threatening conditions. Another 2-year-old was denied care for Bronchitis and Covid-19. The child was forced to stay in bed for days with no medication or treatment from staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports are now coming out about children at the age of 11-15 being transported from other states while in detention who are pregnant and still being denied medical care. Children, at that age, are unable to carry or give birth without extreme risk to the child, or the fetus. With less than adequate care and consideration for those in ICE custody, it is safe to say that pregnant children, who are primarily the victims of sexual assault, will be denied the medical care they need as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s administration said this would be an administration of revenge and retribution, and they are making good on that promise by holding children in subhuman conditions. If ICE and the federal government continue to regulate the most basic of communication from children to loved ones, how will we truly know what is taking place in these detention centers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So who is responsible for silencing the children of the Dilley Immigration Facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whereas ICE and CBP are the perpetrators of these violations of human and civil rights. However, we all allow this to happen by staying silent while children across this nation are screaming for help. The party that claims to want to protect the children is engaged in the largest child sex trafficking ring in human history. They could care less about what happens to the children held in the Dilley Detention Center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Even when we have children starving for humanity in detention centers across this nation, our elected officials still do nothing. When local and state officials try to inspect these facilities they are stonewalled by federal authorities. With no accountability or oversight, ICE will be able to continue its treatment of children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The denial of such basic creative outlets, which serve as psychological lifelines, is dehumanizing and disruptive to maintaining a sense of oneself. Maintaining a sense of self is especially important in times of uncertainty or significant and severe trauma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Providing creative outlets such as coloring, drawing, painting and writing, help children to express complex emotions and by doing so, gives the child the ability to express what they may be internalizing. And they are crying out for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And who is allowing this to continue?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Americans are allowing this to happen, and it will only stop when we do something about it. We cannot let these children go unheard or have their voices snuffed out. Find your local advocacy groups, get involved with local mutual aid organizations and organize networks to help facilitate needs for your community. Participate in town halls and donate your time to getting involved and meeting your neighbors. We protect us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Call all your elected officials on all levels and demand the abolishment of ICE and the release of thousands of migrants and refugees, and all of their children. Demand an end to state sanctioned terror in our communities. Or demand their resignations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 There is no absolving any American from the denial of human rights and the abuses perpetrated against children in the care of ICE and CBP. These atrocities are being funded with American tax dollars, and when we stay silent, we consent to the abuse of these children and all people in the custody of the federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is beyond simply enforcing immigration law. This is downright cruel, and inhumane.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
