{"id":22645,"date":"2025-09-30T15:19:18","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T19:19:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idavox.com\/?p=22645"},"modified":"2025-09-30T15:19:20","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T19:19:20","slug":"south-carolina-legislator-that-was-celebrated-by-moms-for-liberty-pleads-guilty-to-child-porn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/idavox.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/30\/south-carolina-legislator-that-was-celebrated-by-moms-for-liberty-pleads-guilty-to-child-porn\/","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina Legislator That Was Celebrated by Moms for Liberty Pleads Guilty to Child Porn"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Another day, another right-winger on his way to prison for what he accusing others for doing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">A former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives who allied with the neo-fascist Moms for Liberty (M4L) and was a speaker at their events, railing against the transgender community as a threat to children, is now looking at up to twenty years in prison after pleading guilty to federal charges of sharing over 200 child sexual abuse videos via the internet under the screen name \u201cjoebidennnn69.\u201d Many of the videos featured toddlers and infants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">R.J. May, who until his<a href=\"https:\/\/scdailygazette.com\/briefs\/sc-representative-arrested-booked-in-lexington-county-jail\/\"> arrest three months ago<\/a> represented the 88<sup>th<\/sup> District in South Carolina,<a href=\"https:\/\/scdailygazette.com\/2025\/09\/29\/former-rep-rj-may-pleads-guilty-to-sending-disgusting-and-depraved-child-sex-abuse-videos\/\"> signed a plea agreement<\/a> last week on the charges. A hearing on Monday formally changed his plea from not guilty to guilty, waiving his right to a jury trial. The agreement applied to five of the 10 videos with which he was charged, Prosecutors agreeing to dismiss the remaining five counts. Each count could bring a sentence of five to 20 years. Federal inmates cannot receive parole. In addition, May can be fined up to $250,000, plus more than $40,000 in other fees. A portion of the fine will go to children depicted in the more than 220 videos identified on the Kik account May said he operated. According to U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirling, who described the videos as, \u201cthe worst of the worst,\u201d and, \u201csome of the most disgusting and depraved stuff I\u2019ve ever seen or heard about,\u201d investigators have identified 21 of the 62 children in the videos, through other cases where the videos were shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">May, a 38 year-old married father of two, was elected to Congress in 2020 and the following year elected to be the Vice Chairman of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus. R.J. May opposed Critical Race Theory (CRT) and initiated a 2022 lawsuit against a Lexington, Kentucky school district on behalf of the House Freedom Caucus, accusing the district of violating a law against CRT with programs that were partly in partnership with an organization that promoted equity and anti-racism. He <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.momsforliberty.org\/events\/346\/speakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spoke<\/a> at a Feb. 2022 Charleston, SC conference titled &#8220;Reclaiming Education in America&#8221; sponsored by Moms for Liberty, known for targeting the trans community and school curriculums under the auspices of combating CRT. According to numerous accounts online, M4L named him their 2023 &#8220;Legislator of the Year&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In January 2024, May sponsored a bill to restrict gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youth, saying during the debate, &#8220;Legislators have an obligation to ensure that our children have no harm done to them.&#8221; Just three months later,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sc\/pr\/west-columbia-man-indicted-distributing-child-sexual-abuse-material\"> according to the Deptartment of Justice<\/a>, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber-tip from the social messaging app Kik. Kik flagged several videos from the username \u201cjoebidennnn69\u201d as containing child sexual abuse. Investigators connected the account to the home IP address and mobile device of May and identified at least 10 videos depicting child sexual abuse that were shared from the account. May was arrested in June 2025 and resigned his House seat in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">A special election will be held in October to fill his seat.
