On October 19, white nationalist leader Richard Spencer held a speaking event at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville. Spencer was met by a large anti-fascist mobilization organized by the\u00a0#NoNazisAtUF coalition<\/a>and supported by\u00a0anti-racists from throughout the South<\/a>. The event was a clear victory for anti-racists.\u00a0Spencer was jeered and frequently drowned out from inside the venue<\/a>, and ended his event ahead of schedule. Two thousand protesters simultaneously rallied outside, with many in the crowd confronting and chasing the white supremacists who showed up for Spencer.\u00a0The University of Florida spent approximately $600,000 to protect the white power leader<\/a>; the\u00a0Governor declared a State of Emergency ahead of time<\/a>; but a broad-based anti-racist\/anti-fascist coalition nevertheless won the day.<\/p>\n

After Spencer\u2019s event had ended,\u00a0a vehicle containing white nationalists from Texas provoked<\/a>,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0then fired a shot at protesters waiting at a bus stop just outside of campus. Nobody was hit. William Fears, Colton Fears, and Tyler Tenbrink were eventually found and charged with attempted homicide.<\/a>According to police, it was Tyler Tenbrink that fired the shot.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A\u00a0planning document for Richard Spencer\u2019s visit<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which anti-racists accessed and which we are\u00a0now publishing in full<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 suggests that the would-be killers from Texas were not mere supporters of Richard Spencer, but traveled to campus as part of Spencer\u2019s operational plan for the day. The operational document also reveals details such as there being an after-party\u00a0<\/span>for<\/span>\u00a0Alt-Right militants who assisted with the Gainesville event, and that Spencer and other \u201cVIPs\u201d planned dinner with donors while visiting the city.<\/span><\/div>\n

The operational plan developed for Gainesville by Richard Spencer\u2019s closest associates reveals coordination with both the University of Florida and police, with both parties described by the Alt-Right racists as \u201ccooperating.\u201d According to the plans distributed to staff at Spencer\u2019s National Policy Institute,\u00a0The Patriot Front, an openly fascist organization<\/a>, was a key organization participating in the racist \u201cTask Force\u201d for Gainesville. The planning document appears to have made plans for larger numbers of white nationalists than showed up, again pointing to Gainesville as a flop for Richard Spencer\u2019s movement. This defeat happened at\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>time when the racist \u201cAlt-Right\u201d is desperate for any sort of win, in the aftermath of the bloody and disastrous \u201cUnite the Right\u201d rally in Charlottesville this August.<\/span><\/div>\n

The \u201cOperation Gator\u201d document mentions that white nationalists had plans for a \u201cflash mob\u201d in the event that University of Florida cance<\/span>l<\/span>led Spencer\u2019s speech \u2014 with racists showing up elsewhere on campus or in Gainesville to make their presence felt (with predictable intimidation and likely targeted violence). In actuality, Spencer did not have his speech cancelled by the University but rather cut it short himself after being humiliated by the student\/community mobilization. The \u201cOperation Gator\u201d plan stated that participants ought not bring guns. However, it was in the context of political defeat (but not any University cancellation) that some of Spencer\u2019s allies attempted to settle scores with anti-racists, nearly committing a murder.<\/span><\/div>\n

The \u201cOperation Gator Operation Order\u201d for Gainesville lists the Patriot Front as one of the main organizations \u2014 along with\u00a0Identity Evropa<\/a>\u00a0and \u201cThe\u200b \u200bFlorida\u200b \u200bGators\u201d \u2014 comprising the Alt-Right \u201cTask Force\u201d for the day.\u00a0Patriot Front is a split-off from Vanguard America<\/a>, the\u00a0fascist organization that Heather Heyer\u2019s murderer stood with in Charlottesville<\/a>. As a new white power organization,\u00a0Patriot Front is best known for its attempt at storming the Houston Anarchist Bookfair this September<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As well as mentioning Patriot Front as an organization, the operational order also states that \u201cTexas guys\u201d would be bringing a van to Gainesville. A Twitter post from days before Spencer\u2019s visit to Florida\u00a0explicitly stated that Patriot Front was sending a \u201cdelegation\u201d from Texas<\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\n

William Fears, one of the individuals now facing attempted homicide charges in Gainesville,\u00a0led the Patriot Front attack on the Houston Anarchist Bookfair according to one published account<\/a>. In addition,\u00a0one of Fears\u2019 Facebook accounts (under the name \u201cRance Mason\u201d)<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>posted the Patriot Front flag, again signaling his allegiance to that organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

In Gainesville,\u00a0William Fears was photographed\u00a0<\/a><\/span>wearing the \u201cWhite Bloc\u201d uniform<\/a>\u00a0used by Spencer\u2019s forces and described in an appendix to the Gainesville operational document. William Fears\u2019 uniform further indicates that he was an invited and approved part of the Alt-Right operation, which was put together by Spencer\u2019s closest associates. Hours later,\u00a0William Fears shouted encouragement for Tyler Tenbrink to shoot anti-racists<\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\n

After a shot had been fired but before arrests, the Texas branch of Patriot Front stated on Twitter that all its members were \u201csafe and having a blast in Gainesville.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
