Short Film SKIN Gets Academy Award Nomination

Before the feature film of the same name was produced, a short film (co-produced by Daryle Lamont Jenkins) was done – and Oscar noticed! Much love and appreciation!

Skin, the short film was directed by Israeli filmmaker Guy Nattiv who also directed the feature length film of the same name starring Jamie Bell, Danielle MacDonald and Mike Colter as Daryle Lamont Jenkins, has been nominated for an Academy Award for best live action short film. Jenkins is one of the producers of the film.

The film is about a neo-Nazi raising his son with his beliefs who gets into an altercation with a Black man in a supermarket, setting off a chain of events that leads to a shocking end.

In addition to directing, Nattiv along with Sharon Maymon also wrote the screenplay, and it was produced by himself, his wife, actress Jaime Ray Newman, Andrew Carlberg and Tim Harms. It was executive produced by Matt Lauber, Celine Rattay, Jessica Sherman, Peter Sobiloff and Trudie Styler. Daryle Lamont Jenkins and Bryon Widner were consulting producers on the film.

This production was a precursor to the feature also named Skin which Nattiv also wrote and directed and is based on the story of Widner, a former skinhead played by Jamie Bell who later renounced white supremacy and had his tattoos removed in a years-long process. Jenkins, was instrumental in his transition away from his old life is played by Mike Colter, best known as the title character in the Netflix program Luke Cage. Danielle MacDonald who appears in the short film, are among a number of actors who appear in the feature film as well including Lonnie Chavis and Michael Villar. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, and will have its European premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February.
