When the faculty advisor bolted from advising the group that invited Taylor, that got the ball rolling to shutting all of this down!
TUSCALOOSA, AL – Students for America First, a student organization at the University of Alabama sparked controversy when it invited American Renaissance editor Jared Taylor to speak on campus on April 19, but it was announced Monday that Taylor has been disinvited because the organization’s registered status as a campus organization has been withdrawn.
“Students for America First does not currently meet the registered student organization requirements,” a campus-wide email read. “Consistent with UA policy, the group’s registered status has been withdrawn, and its proposed event this week will not go forward. Prior to having its registered status withdrawn and becoming inactive, the group had an opportunity to comply with the requirements of a registered UA student organization, but was unable to do so.”
The statement further noted that to be recognized as a student organization, a group “requires, among other things, having a full-time UA faculty or staff advisor.” In a March 30 tweet, Students for America First announced that Dr. Bruce Barrett, an anti-gay activist who in the nineties founded an organization called Statisticians Opposed to Homosexual Activism (SOHA), stepped down as their advisor.
Dr. Bruce Barrett has stepped down from his role as Faculty Advisor of the University of Alabama’s Students for America First. He was not fully informed of Jared Taylor’s polarizing statements on race and identity. Students for America First wishes Dr. Barrett all the best.

Taylor was to give a speech titled “Diversity: Is It Good for America?” and it was immediately met with condemnation. with University President Stuart Bell, encouraging students and faculty not to attend the event. Students for America First has been in the spotlight for peddling hate politics, with Talking Points Memo noting their promotion of White Supremacist Republican Candidate Paul Nehlen, who is currently running for House Speaker’s Paul Ryan’s congressional seat. Students for America First invited Nehlen to the campus for an event on April 5.
Taylor’s own event, the 2018 American Renaissance Conference, is scheduled to be held at the Montgomery Bell Park Inn in Burns, TN on April 27-29, one week from when he was supposed to speak in Alabama. Meanwhile, Students for America First told a local reporter they will try to reschedule him for the next semester.
Statement from @UofAlabama confirms white nationalist Jared Taylor will not speak on campus this Thursday, as originally planned. The group Students for America First tells me it’s working to make that happen next semester. #WVTM13. pic.twitter.com/YhQkYPRTZQ
