How influential was this brother here? Influential for the Notorious B.I.G. to name check him in the verses of Juicy: “Peace to Ron G, Brucey B, Kid Capri Funkmaster Flex, Love Bug Starsky” His real name was Kevin Smith, and many of us who was listening to hip hop in the 80s remember him blowing up our radio for a good number of years. Before that, before hip hop was even on wax, he was DJing at the Disco Fever in the Bronx, one of the places early hip hop had a home. Hell, it is even believed that it was either him or the late Cowboy from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to have coined the term “hip hop” (he talks about it in the third video)! DJ Love Bug Starski died from a heart attack in Las Vegas on Feb. 8, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for all time. Peace to him indeed.
