Melinda Smith, aka Mercedes Carrerra, and her husband Jason Whitney, aka Daemon Cins have been sitting in jail for four years in lieu of $2 million bail.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA The couple who has made their names in the porn industry and have been associated with neo-fascists such as the Proud Boys and Mike Cernovich are finally going to see their day in court, four years after they were arrested on child molestation charges after police found evidence that they allegedly was committing sexual acts with the young girl, reportedly the daughter of one of them.
Mercedes Carrera whose real name is Melinda Smith, and Daemon Cins whose real name is Jason Whitney, have been held at the San Bernadino County jail in lieu of $2 million bail for each since their arrest on Feb. 1, 2019. Their trial date had been repeatedly vacated and postponed but court records show that their trial will begin on April 18, although some news reports have said the trial will begin April 17. They had been facing eight counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 10 and one count of possession of a controlled substance, according to court records.
News reports say that when the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department were first notified of sexual acts against the girl, detectives interviewed her and she told them she had been sexually assaulted several times over the course of four months. A search of the home in which she resided with Whitney and Smith, who is the child’s mother uncovered evidence corroborating the girl’s statement, particularly drugs, guns, and a makeshift studio in their bedroom so they could film and record “various pornographic videos or web shows,” according at the time of the arrest to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Det. Donald Patton. A statement from Smith says that the charges were initially brought by her ex-partner who is the father of the child and according to her the focus of a custody battle. Police have suspected however that there are other victims.
Both Smith and Whitney are close friends with the neo-fascist Proud Boys such as founder Gavin McInnes, Smith appearing on his streaming program several times. Smith defended Joe Biggs, who is currently on trial for sedition after his actions at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in a 2017 tweet after a Raw Story article exposed tweets from him promoting rape and sexual violence, encouraged followers to “punch a tranny” and threatened to “punch some bitches in the face real soon.” Smith also was a promoter of Gamergate, a controversy in the gaming community that started in 2014 that had white supremacist and misogynistic undertones, with participants using it as a vehicle for harassment and threatening behavior towards women and people of color in the industry.
The couple reportedly had liquidated their assets and have no source of income due to their incarceration. They are being represented by a public defender.
