Since we last covered their appearance at the Candace Owens speaking event, the Proud Boys confirmed on their Telegram that it was indeed them we were dealing with that day. So this is just an update.
Jersey Counter-Info
On Monday March 20, 2023, Turning Point USA’s New Jersey Chapter held a far right speaking event at Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus, one of the stops on a larger speaking tour across the so-called united states. With prominent Turning Point USA figureheads like Candace Owens and Charlie Kirk slated to speak, a community based effort to push back against the far right organization culminating in a protest that was hosted on March 20, 2023 outside the Douglas Student Center. The protest was attended by dozens of community members and antifascists to confront the far right group and organizing going on at Rutgers New Brunswick campus.
Unsurprisingly, New Jersey fascists also appeared at the protest, in an effort to counter protest against the antifascist presence. Reflective of a pattern in their more recent behavior over the past year, the fascists did not announce their plans to counter protest ahead of time, and instead used the tactic of pop-up protesting. Long standing NJ anti-fascist reporter, Daryle Lamont Jenkins (DLJ), was on the scene however and documented their presence for One People’s Project.
Largely, the fascists stood around filming and taking pictures, in an effort to intimidate and conduct counter-surveillance on attendees. They also made an effort to disguise themselves as a forensic counter measure and obscure their identities. Despite taking these counter measures, two fascists stood out. In footage gathered by DLJ, one fascist can be seen wearing a blue hat, gray face covering, and holding a small dog. For the duration of the event he paced back and forth in the protest area while holding his dog. The other fascist was wearing cowboy styled boots, dark clothing, a cammo baseball hat, sunglasses, and an american flag face covering.
Both the “dog fascist” and his lackey have now been partially identified as unknown NJ Proud Boys. Back in January 2023, during the Chinese New Year, two proud boys jumped out of a black Hyundai sedan with NJ plates in Manhattan and started hurling racist slurs at Chinatown residents. The one middle aged proud boy was holding a dog while he rushed at people yelling racist epithets. The other wore dark clothing, cowboy styled boots, sunglasses, a cammo baseball hat, and an American flag face covering.
Comparing the video and photo evidence of both hate fueled incidents revealed that the “dog fascist” and his lackey are the very same proud boys that attacked Chinatown residents in January 2023. Despite trying to conceal their identities while on the Rutgers’ New Brunswick campus, the Proud Boys in question failed to do so.
As shown in the picture above, the middle aged proud boy is not only wearing the same shoes, but his sloppy disguise reveals distinguishing facial features (brow line, beard outline, eyes) and mannerisms (way he carries his dog) that can be matched to the Chinatown incident. The dog pictured in both instances is wearing the same cheetah printed harness.
The second proud boy who helped in the attack on residents in Chinatown was also sloppy in disguising himself, wearing similar clothing (the same boots in a different color, american flag face covering, dark clothing, and sunglasses) and the same cammo baseball hat.
With both these individuals now positively identified as NJ proud boys, it is very likely that the others with them also are affiliated with the group.
Further information is needed to fully identify both NJ proud boys. Do you recognize these individuals? Have you seen them out in public or recognize their vehicle, a black Hundyai sedan with NJ plates?
