One week later, the anger hasn’t subsided.
On Saturday, a press conference was held to express outrage at the treatment of a Black child at Bridgewater Commons, a mall in Bridgewater, NJ, who was fighting a Hispanic child but was handcuffed while the Hispanic child who looked White was told to sit on a couch. While both were banned from the mall, the focus has been on the Bridgewater Police Department and their not-so-even-handed approach to the matter, treating the Black child with more scrutiny than they did the White child in their eyes.
The family of Z’Kye Husain joined Larry Hamm and the People’s Organization for Progress, the Rev. Dr. Herbert Daughtry, Pam Africa from the MOVE Organization and several other organizations to call attention to the case. On Thursday, a second rally was held at the Bridgewater Police Department, and a third will take place on Monday afternoon.
This is video from the press conference held on February, 19, 2022.
