Out of the Frying Pan: NY Young Republicans Hold Fascist-Thick Holiday Gala in Jersey to Avoid Laws, Antifa in NYC, and Breaks Them There!

A group photo of the piles of dirt that fled New York City to infest New Jersey - with some names attached.

They are about to get effed up by Gov. Murphy and Jersey City Mayor Fulop, who shut down the venue for the foreseeable future!

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The New York Young Republicans were afraid that opposition to their 108th holiday gala in Manhattan – organized by an associate of the Proud Boys  – would be shut down in by those in opposition to the event, as well as the anti-COVID laws in the city, so they kept the location a secret.

When it was revealed that the Dec. 3 event took place at a catering hall across the river, even New Jersey’s governor expressed anger at the news and particularly took a shot at Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz for participating, and it resulted in shutdown of the venue by Mayor Steven Fulop.

Maritime Parc played host to a group of attendees, few if any wearing masks, at what had been called a “superspreader” event by those who were calling for venues in Manhattan to shut it down and not allow to continue. It was promoted by Young Republican President Gavin Wax, who is also a known associate of White Nationalist and neo-fascists such as the Proud Boys, even attending the speech by Gavin McInnes at the Metropolitan Republican Club two years ago that saw several of them sent to jail on assault convictions after a attacking antifa outside, and has defended neo-fascists of the past such as British politician Enoch Powell and Joseph McCarthy. In an interview conducted for the white nationalist website VDARE by John Derbyshire, himself once fired by National Review in 2012 after he wrote an article advising readers to “[a]void concentrations of blacks not known to you personally,” Wax called for the right to infiltrate institutions “to make them more conservative, to make them adhere more to traditional values, to the love of nation, love of country, love of God, love of family.”

In fact, a number of those present have enjoyed mainstream prominence while associating with neo-fascist and racist circles. Propagandist James O’Keefe, who has attended racist meeting and has been invited to speak on college campuses by the White Nationalist Youth for Western Civilization, was among those who attended, and Gaetz has often courted those circles, supporting Islamophobic propagandist Laura Loomer in her failed bid for Congress this year. Gaetz, who mocked the concerns of COVID-19 early on by wearing a gas mask on the House floor, ended up contracting the disease at some point, making it more of a concern that he attended this event. Ironically, he replaced former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin who declined to attend citing those concerns.

Activists in New York sounded the alarm over the event via Twitter and other social media outlets, and some politicians in the state also expressed anger and concern, notably New York City Councilman Mark D. Levine, who in a tweet was dangerous and must be stopped. In response Gavin Wax threatened to sue officials in New York should they shut down his event there, citing his constitutional rights. In the end, he chose to keep the venue a secret to all except those attending.

News of the New York Young Republicans event being held in Jersey City were met with anger and swift action on the part of elected officials in New Jersey. Jersey City Mayor Fulop, who earlier this year lost a family member to COVID-19, posted an administrative order to Twitter, indicating that the Maritime Parc has been ordered closed “until such time as the operators prepare and submit a written operational plan to the Jersey City Division of Environmental Health” describing how they will comply with New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s COVID-19 restrictions. The tweet was in response to that of event attendee Joel Fischer’s mocking tweet to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to come after him for participating, and in another tweet, Fulop addressed him directly, mocking his “bravery” for “sneaking across the river to hide in NJ in order to hold a party that you wouldn’t disclose the location of” while also letting him know that law enforcement is investigating. Fischer’s tweet has since been deleted.

Gov. Murphy was even less gracious. His anger was targeted in particular at Rep Gaetz, whom he called “Matt Putz” in a tweet and in a COVID-19 briefing, for participating in the event, noting his past dismissal of the pandemic and telling him he is not welcome in New Jersey.

Yesterday, New Jersey recorded record high numbers for COVID-19, with 4,913 new cases reported, the highest number in a single day, and 64 deaths.
