Well Isn’t That Special?

In the wake of Roy Moore’s defeat Tuesday in Alabama we really need to discuss this fascism in the name of God crap that has permeated certain segments of our society. Chuck Tackett opines.

“Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons, and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly that I never knew you. Away from me you evildoers?”

Matthew 7: 21-23

Ever since The Cheeto Demon and his cohort Mr. Clairol took office January 20th, 2017, it has been very revealing who Conservative White Christian zealots really worship and it is not Jesus. The sad thing is that it ain’t no secret. They want the power to enforce their beliefs on others through the political process. They can’t even run their own lives, what makes these folks think they can run ours? Isn’t that special?

It has been said that sunshine is the best disinfectant. If one defines themselves as a Christian, how can they remain silent while their Great White Savior is systematically committing genocide to American citizens in Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands, underfeeding people, underpaying folks, destroying the environment, and slaughtering animals just for fun? Their silence is their approval. Hypocrisy has been one of the biggest reasons folks have turned away from organized religion along with these so-called White Christians imposing religious beliefs on the rest of us through politics. I thought God gave us a free will to follow him or not. I can only assume White GOP Jesus did not get the memo or he has a different set of standards. Well, isn’t that special?

Being a former Union officer of the Communication Workers of America (CWA) Local 6321 back in the 1980’s, I became aware of the fact that politics affect every aspect of your life, whether you like it or not. It was equally frustrating, at that time, to educate CWA union members. A number of them desired managers’ jobs or had the notion if they turned their backs, or didn’t listen to the Union, they would be rewarded. Nothing so tragic as a dream deferred.

The same thing was happening in 1996, and up to the present, when I started writing my weekly articles called Chuck’s Chat. I was accused of trying to be a “know it all.” The accusations graduated to me being labeled as a racist, a drama queen, or just a very unhappy person. This all came out through the years of preaching to LGBTQs to not be complacent, revealing some very ugly truths about the racism in the LGBTQ community. Because of life experiences, I tried to warn folks that politics affect their everyday lives, that they must be vigilant, or our rights could be taken away. I could see through the years Tea Baggers and White Right-Wing Christians building clout and power. It was met with mostly deaf ears. I just came to the conclusion that my mother and paternal great-grandmother were correct when they both used to say, “some people just don’t believe that fat meat is greasy.”

Thanks to fellow Kansas City LGBTQ writer Bob Minor, I came upon an article from HuffPost’s Editor-in-Chief Michelangelo Signorelli, when he revealed he wrote about a phenomenon he called, “Victory Blindness.” According to Signorelli, “Victory Blindness” is when minorities, who are discriminated against, become completely complacent because of huge victories and thinking they have achieved full equality.

Folks we all need to do some critical thinking. Be very, very observant of what people say and do. There are plenty of REAL Christian Evangelicals such as Rev. Dr. William Barber who are putting the word of The Bible to help right some wrongs that The Cheeto Demon, Mr. Clairol, and their band of pseudo-Christian followers have perpetrated on this land because of unbridled greed and power. These Christian White Nationalist would rather bring this country, the environment, and our infrastructure to ruin if they can’t rule it. The question I need to ask is, why are these silly Whites afraid of becoming a minority? Are they afraid minorities will treat them with the same disdain they have had for us through the centuries? Well, if that’s the case, take it to White GOP Jesus.
