White Power Merch? There’s An App For That – For Now!

Label 56 tries to bring its technology into the 21st Century, even if it’s beliefs are still in the Stone Ages. UPDATE: Google Play has since removed this app.

A White Power music distribution outlet, who’s catalog includes recordings from bands that had a racist mass shooter in their lineup, has an app for its website and online store currently on Google Play that has gone unnoticed for months.

Label 56, which is owned and operated by members of the neo-Nazi Maryland “Skinheads”, launched the app in Sept. 2016, and users are able to access not only its catalog featuring clothing, jewelry, music and other items, but also its website and it social media network, all of which is used to promote hate music and politics. The distro was put in the spotlight after it was learned that they signed the Hammerskin-associated band End Apathy, which was fronted by Wade Michael Page. In August 2012, Page murdered six people at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee before killing himself. Label 56 issued a statement saying that they did not condone the actions of Page and removed any material related to End Apathy from it’s website, but recordings from Page’s other bands, Definite Hate and Youngland remain.

According to the Google Play Developer Policy, apps promoting hate are forbidden. “We don’t allow apps that advocate against groups of people based on their race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual orientation, or gender identity,” a statement on its website reads. It is not known if Google is aware of Label 56’s history and content. Users can report apps as inappropriate.
