White Supremacist Event Becomes First at National Press Club to Be Shut Down

The National Policy Institute has had three events there since 2011. No more of that crap!

WASHINGTON, DC – For the first time in its 108-year history, the National Press Club (NPC) has canceled an scheduled event – the planned press conference for the White Supremacist National Policy Institute (NPI).

Friday afternoon’s press conference which was touted as a public explanation of what has been commonly called the “alt-right” was shut down by the NPC citing safety concerns, according to NPI Executive Director Richard Spencer in a You Tube video, who also accused them of violating their freedom of speech. “What they cited was a security risk, and they said that when we have previously used the Press Club – we’ve been to the Press Club three times previously, by the way – they had to hire additional security,” he said. “I said, ‘Well, we can pay for additional security!’ And they said, ‘Well, we’re just not ready to do that.’ What it sounds like is that the Press Club does not want to allow us to speak, period.”

NPI has held one event at the Press Club in 2011 and two last year, the last one in Halloween which saw protesters. NPI also regularly holds events at the nearby Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, and during their event on March 5, crowds of antifascist protesters came out to oppose the event.

The press conference was supposed to include Spencer, Jared Taylor, publisher of the White Supremacist publication American Renaissance, and Peter Brimelow of the White Supremacist website VDARE.

According to Spencer, the press conference will still take place at the planned time at 1 PM on Friday, but they will keep the new venue a secret until closer to the time. NPI is also going to have an event at the Reagan Building on Nov. 17, with a pre-event the night before at another undisclosed location that is scheduled to feature reality show star Tila Tequila.
