Just think: in a few years a violent, alcoholic racist who likes to attack black women just might be an attorney defending people against the kinds of laws he breaks. And we will have George Mason University Law School to thank for it.

WASHINGTON, DC – Three years ago, Marcus Epstein was about to attend the University of Virginia Law School, until it was revealed that he had pled guilty to assaulting a black woman on the street while drunk, calling her the N-word in the process. Epstein at the time was the Executive Director of Pat Buchanan’s group the American Cause and Tom Tancredo’s Team America PAC. Despite being Korean and Jewish, he was also reportedly one of the co-founders of the white supremacist group Youth for Western Civilization (YWC), and was making a name for himself as a close associate of DC area white supremacists, inviting them to speak at various forums he would organize around town.

Once the story of his 2007 arrest came out however, he became an instant pariah. Not long after the media picked up the story, University of Virginia Law School officials reported that he was not enrolled there, nor would he be in the future.

Epstein vanished from the public eye after that. He still attended and participated in conservative functions, but did not maintain the profile that he had before. Youth for Western Civilization began denying that he was a co-founder of the group, but he still managed to show up at the events put on by them. In 2010 he acknowledged that those who reported on his arrest pretty much broken him, saying, “I’m used to being smeared, and these guys have more or less successfully harmed my career, so I don’t see what else they could do to me.”

But behind the scenes it was a different story. He has found another Law School that would take him, namely George Mason University Law School which has garnered a reputation for being a conservative school, according to searchable online records.

In 2010, George Mason student and YWC member David Worley counter-protested a mock wall constructed by pro-Palestinian students against a wall Israel erected around parts of its by dressing as a “Hamas militant” and passed out flyers detailing the things he says militant Islamic groups like Hamas do, like suicide bombings and using women and children as human shields. Ironically, police thought Worley was a terrorist, ordered him to get on his hands and knees and searched him for weapons. Worley is still a student at George Mason.

At press time, it is not certain when Epstein enrolled, or when he is to graduate, but besides the YWC presence there, another irony is apparent in his choice of schools to attend. In August 2006, Epstein and his “Robert A. Taft Club” held a white supremacist forum titled “Race and Conservatism” at George Mason Law School that featured among others well-known hatemongers Jared Taylor, publisher of the racist newsletter American Renaissance, and John Derbyshire of National Review Online. It garnered attention two years ago when it was learned that conservative propagandist James O’Keefe who along with Epstein was with Leadership Institute at the time, attended the forum as well. Eventually Epstein and some other founders of the Taft Club would go on to found Youth for Western Civilization

Eight months later, a drunken Epstein, who’s problems with alcohol earned him a 14-day jail sentence on theft, public intoxication and other charges in 2004 while a undergraduate at William & Mary, was walking down a street in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC making offensive remarks. He encountered a black woman, attacked her after calling her the N-word, and eventually was arrested by an off duty Secret Service agent when he tried to run away. The incident went unnoticed for two years, and during that time Epstein went on to announce his enrollment in the University of Virginia Law School. But that changed when everyone was made aware of the Georgetown incident.

At the time of the revelation, Pat Buchanan’s sister and President of the American Cause Bay Buchanan took issue with the news coming out, and what it cost Epstein. “(The) individuals who claim they’re interested in carrying-out justice in this world saw to it that Marcus paid again for his offense,” she wrote in the conservative newspaper Human Events. “With nothing but a skeleton of a story they initiated a campaign targeted at UVA’s Admission Office.  And they won — Marcus will not be attending UVA Law School in the fall. “

But the Buchanans never abandoned him. In October 2011, Pat Buchanan was promoting the book that would eventually hasten his departure as a commentator on MSNBC, “Suicide of a Superpower: Will American Survive to 2025?” and credited Epstein for helping with the research for the book. “Special thanks to Marcus Epstein,” Buchanan’s acknowledgement reads, “for the invaluable assistance and untold hours he devoted to researching idea, issues, and anecdotes.”
